(Online Dating Industry Journal) The Texas Insider has published an article on the ongoing online dating background check debate, in a May 2 article titled, "Online Dating Safety Bill Passes Senate Committee." According to the writeup, Texas is one step closer to passing online dating background check legislation. The article also discusses the debate, but in a biased fashion, stating:
"Background checks have proven effective in screening out potential users of online dating services with felony criminal records such as sexual assault, injury to a child, murder, and theft. Without the provision of a background check, online dating services could unintentionally be aiding predators and violent criminals in perpetrating their next crime..."

Online Dating Industry Insider Commentary: The article mentions something called the "Safer Online Dating Alliance" with no further explanation of the alliance. This name was also recently mentioned in a True press release that states, "Supporters of this health and public safety measure include more than 130 Safer Online Dating Alliance (SODA) members including the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence, the International Union of Police Associations, the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence, National Organization of Women-Florida Chapter, online dating participants and businesses."
