(Online Dating Industry Journal) On the heels of the release of Apple’s new iPod with video, David Hunegnaw and Roopan Dey envisioned an online dating opportunity. They have developed a new online dating site that allows members to take advantage of their iPod video capability to help them find dates. On PodDater.com members can download potential matches to their portable video MP3 player while away from their computer.
With millions of iPods sold, they are certainly a hot commodity. The newest iPods with the ability to view video are no exception. Over 21 million iPods have been sold and if you combine that with the more than 17 million people who viewed online dating personals last year, the combination of the two concepts definitely has possibilities.
"Several months ago we identified an opportunity to bring Internet dating to portable devices like the iPod," says Hunegnaw. "With the introduction of the iPod with video, we naturally jumped on the opportunity to leverage the technology and take dating on-the-go to a whole new extreme."
"While Internet dating allows you to chat with people and 'get to know' them, seeing how someone comes across on video is another way to find people who you feel fit the criteria you are looking for without sitting in front of a computer screen," adds Dey.
Members of PodDater can identify potential matches and then download them to their iPods via the iTunes music service. Additionally, PodDater.com claims that members can more quickly establish contact with like-minded people through the site's use of tags. Tags are freely chosen keywords that are hyperlinked and used to identify potential matches.
