(Online Dating Industry Journal) A recent article posted on WAVY.com, the NBC affiliate website, exposes one woman's troubles with the new wave of online dating scammers claiming to be from Nigeria. The article tells the story of Patricia Pease, and how she was almost scammed. According to the article:
"The person Pease met on the Internet sent her pictures, claiming they were 'Solomon Williams,' an American contractor working in Nigeria. Pease thought him to be sweet and a hottie.
"But that sweetness soured after 'Solomon Williams' asked her to cash a cashiers check and ship him the amount in post office money orders. By then Pease suspected her cyber sweetheart wasn't on the up and up. She was right. The check was fake, and had she done what he asked, she could have lost her own money."
The article also gives advice from a member of the FBI and an identity theft expert. To read the full article, click here.
