(Online Dating Industry Journal) An article in the Ottawa Business Journal profiles new local dating site Strike a Match. Strike a Match was developed by Lynn Shortt with the hopes of filling a need in the Ottawa singles community. From the article:
"Strike a Match, which launched at the beginning of the month and targets the 25 plus demographic, offers an online community for singles where they can post the usual profiles, but also create and update their own blogs and photo albums. Online forum discussions and reviews of local movies, clubs, restaurants, music and travel are also available. The website is free of the typical advertisements and while the membership is currently free, a monthly charge of about $9.95 a month will soon be implemented.
"One of the things that makes us different is the local flavour," says Ms. Shortt. "It's great to find someone online who's interesting and shares your love of rock climbing, but if they live in Vancouver then the relationship can't always go anywhere."
Shortt explained that, after being turned down by investors, she decided to work on the site only funded by paychecks from her day job, which she still has. She is hopeful, however, that she can soon work full time following her dream with Strike A Match.
