(Online Dating Industry Journal) According to a news article in Online Dating Magazine, Spark Networks has shut down Glimpse.com, a dating site for gay and lesbian singles. Glimpse.com now redirects to AmericanSingles.com, also owned by Spark Networks. From the article:
"Things just shut down two weeks ago and logins were automatically redirected to American Singles, which not only costs more to join but provides none of the free services Glimpse.com did," says an Online Dating Magazine reader, who emailed the publication inquiring about the closure. "What a way to lose customers!"
A representative from Spark Networks told Online Dating Magazine that outstanding subscriptions to Glimpse.com were refunded and that if a Glimpse member logs in using AmericanSingles.com their profile is automatically transferred. For more information read the full article.
Kim's Comments:
This shut down doesn't make sense to me. I think the 500,000 members Glimpse.com claimed to have would be more than enough to keep the site running, but perhaps this whole move is to build AmericanSingles.com into an even larger major online dating service. Too bad it is at the expense and frustration of many users. Moving Glimpse.com member profiles to a general dating service like American Singles goes against the main reason why many most likely joined - because it was a gay and lesbian niche dating service. Seems like a bad move on Spark Network's part.
