(Online Dating Industry Journal) According to The Salem News, Heather Cimini, a law firm bookkeeper, and Jason Moore, a former professional soccer player, used Cimini's company credit card to pay for an exorbitant amount of personal luxuries and to fund the now out of business online dating service AmericanHookups.com.
The couple were arraigned last week on charges that they ran up credit card debt exceeding $600,000 from Beverly Hills law firm Williams and Mahoney. From the article:
"According to the civil suit, filed this week by Williams and Mahoney, the Rockport couple also used the law firm's money to finance a lifestyle that included frequent travel and entertainment. The firm's credit card was used to pay for a new car, computer equipment, cell phones, prescription drugs, dinners and clothing, among other items. It also paid bills for radio advertising to promote the Web site. It was even used to pay a monthly $19.95 charge for a Yahoo personal ad."
Because Cimini was the firm's bookkeeper, she was able to hide the transactions. The couple has pleaded not guilty but a judge granted an injunction preventing them from doing anything with any of the money that is left. Part of this injunction includes preventing the couple from "trying to sell the AmericanHookups.com site — which has been defunct since last year — while the lawsuit is pending."
