(Online Dating Industry Journal) An article on the WKYT news website once again alerts online daters to the possibility of scams to take their money. The reason I found this article unique is that it gives some very good advice to online dating participants on how to avoid getting scammed. From the article:
"Here are some tips so you don't get caught in this on-line dating scam. Simms says never wire money until you know the check you cashed is legitimate. He says banks are well-versed in scams and would be glad to check 'your' check, or even hold the money until they get the check back from the issuing bank. Also, never wire cash to anyone unless you know that person."
Kim's Comments:
While the last statement isn't exactly helpful because many of the victims of online dating scams believed they were in love with the person they sent money to, the advice about having the bank hold money was very useful. Some people will still feel the overwhelming need to send money to the person they love even though there is the possibility of a scam, and this is a good way to take that extra safety precaution.
My Top Tip for revenge on scammers
I have found that scammers, tend to use yahoo as their mail system of choice. I have also noticed thay the scammer often uses the same password for their email account as they do to set you the account on your site. So for fun, I log into their yahoo mail account and change their password, that sets them back a little. have fun...
