(Online Dating Industry Journal) Plenty of Fish founder Markus Frind knows how to make a lot of money without charging people looking for love online. Frind is the founder of PlentyofFish.com, a free online dating service that has made waves throughout the industry for several years. Frind has met with success in the online dating industry through his business model which has turned his free service into a money machine. Frind uses advertising, and hundreds of thousands of active members.
Frind recently spoke to Canada's National Post where he talked about his success. From the article:
"I'm the only one who has been able to do this and make money," he said in an interview this week from his apartment overlooking Stanley Park. "Other companies have tried free dating sites, but they need 30 employees and $1-million in hardware costs a month. No one else has figured out how to automate the whole process."
Frind makes millions of dollars a year with very low overhead for a service so big. In the article he says that Google Adsense can no longer handle his inventory and he's looking at changing his revenue model.
Joe's Comments
I was contacted for this story and told the reporter how impressed I was with how Frind has been able to, by himself, take on the big guns in the industry - those that have hundreds of employees. Frind deserves a lot of credit for what he has done. As Plenty of Fish grew, Online Dating Magazine saw its Adsense profits drop because Frind was "hogging" up all the inventory. Good job, Markus!
