(Online Dating Industry Journal) Online Dating Magazine today issued a warning to single parents about sex predators using online dating services to get to children.
Online Dating Magazine issued the warning after Parent's for Megan's Law, a child advocacy group, conducted a sting to catch a convicted sex offender on Match.com. The organization put up a fake profile of a mother with two boys and emailed the offender via Match.com, who responded to them. Part of the condition of the offender's parole was not to use the Internet for any type of romantic venture, like online dating. The offender's computer was seized and his parole may be revoked.
Dr. James Houran is quoted in the warning:
"The best protection is to use your head in matters of the heart. Do not get so caught up in the excitement of online dating that you are not constantly alert – instead assume everyone online is a potential predator."
