(Online Dating Industry Journal) Ever since the success of Markus Frind' s Plentyoffish.com, free online dating services have been flowing to the Web like a river to the ocean. The latest service to launch is DatePad, which launched on March 1, 2008. To try and get users, the service is offering a $5,000 Dream Date sweepstakes. Active users who refer others are entered to win a dream date of their choice valued at $5,000. The prize drawing is held monthly.
"It is well known in today's market, the business case for free internet sites is based on advertising revenue, similar to when Television was introduced in the 1950's," says Dave Nichol, president and CEO of Datepad. "At Datepad, we believe that a dedicated team of professionals, coupled with an enlightened corporate mission, will combine to provide the best to all participants."
Joe's Comments
All the publicity Markus Frind has received over the years for his $5 - $10 million annual income for Plentyoffish.com, has gotten a lot of people entering into the "free online dating" marketplace. It's not easy to do as DatePad is already finding out. I visited the site this evening and after five days of publicity, they have very few forum posts and had no active users online (perhaps they should remove that gadget - it scares people off). DatePad has a whole team behind it, whereas Frind, who deals with millions of users, has himself and one employee. We'll see where this goes. If nothing else, someone might one to get real active there and increase your chances of getting that $5,000 dream date!
