(Online Dating Industry Journal) A new online dating service is betting that your DNA is the key to finding your perfect match. Scientific Match is a new service that launched in December in the Boston/Providence area (it will expand as it becomes more successful). The site focuses on DNA and science to determine what people best match up with you.
Being matched with Scientific Match is a three step process:
1) Chemistry Matching. You are sent a DNA kit and have to swab your mouth with a cotton tip and send it back. Your DNA information is used to match you with someone you'll have "physical chemistry" with.
2) Personality / Values Matching. Your fundamental core values are analyzed and cross matched with those who share the same.
3) Personal Preferences. Age range, distance, etc. are analyzed.
Factors from the three step process are brought together to create matches. And it's not cheap, either. A lifetime membership, the only type of membership the service offers, will set you back $1,995 (sometimes they run "lifetime" promotions for $995).
But Scientific Match also puts a strong focus on safety and honesty. Every member has a background check done on him/her. The age, marital status, and seven year bankruptcy record of every member is also verified.
The service challenges people signing up to look at the price of offline matchmakers versus other online dating services. They also point out that their service is for "life" not rebilled every month like other services.
Joe's Comments
Nothing ceases to amaze me anymore when it comes to the online dating industry. This is actually a service I want to watch closer going forward to see what type of success it has and how members react to it. I must say, I do like all the safety things they do and the chemistry matching does sound intriguing.
